Why aren't my SMS notifications and gift cards working properly?

It sounds like you’ve set-up SMS notifications and email notifications to send to your customers but they aren’t receiving them. If that’s correct, I recommend following the troubleshooting steps I’ve mentioned in this thread here: Cannot send nor resend SMS messages.

I would also love to work on troubleshooting this together with you. Here are some questions and insights I have to start:

SMS & Email Notifications

  • Have you tried to send yourself a test SMS? To send yourself a test, you can follow the steps in our help doc: SMS Notifications - Send a test SMS. You’ll be able to send yourself a test SMS to the store phone number saved in your General settings in the Shopify admin.
  • When did this start happening? Were you able to send SMS notifications and emails before, how many customers contacted you about this?
  • What happens when you try to send an email notification? Do you receive an email to your customer account email that mentions the email bounced back? Are there any errors?
  • When you’re sending email notifications to your customers, is the error happening with every customer, or only a few?

Gift Cards

  • Where are you inserting your gift card? What is the error? Typically if a gift card has a balance that is equal or greater than the order total, the customer can click “Complete order” to use the gift card to pay for an order. If the gift card balance is less than the order total, the customer will be asked to choose a second payment method to pay for the balance before placing the order.
