Why can't Google find my products on my eCommerce site?

I’ve had a Shopify shop for months now and my products can’t be found in a Google search. The main page used to come up but that doesn’t even come up anymore. Even searching for the exact title doesn’t help. If I search using my website name (DianeTuGetit.com) and include the product title then it will come up. I feel like I’m wasting my time and thinking of closing. I have another shop by a different name on Big Commerce and can easily be found there. I’m wondering if I have the shop set up correctly. Any tips or advice before I throw in the towel would be greatly appreciated. btw…yes, I have google search console set up.

Thank you in advance,

Diane

Hi @DPS_1 ,

Thank you for getting in touch about this and I can appreciate your frustration with the situation. Having your site appear on Google’s search listings is not an exact science and you are dependent on the algorithm Google uses reading your site correctly. However, there are some steps you can take to try and improve your site’s ranking and have it appear in search results more frequently.

First of all, if you have not done so already, I would recommend submitting your sitemap to Google (and re-submitting it if you have not done so for a while). This allows search engines to better index your site and should make you more discoverable.

You’ll also want to make sure your store’s search engine optimization (SEO) is as good as it can be, as sites with better SEO will generally appear higher in search engine results than those that are not. I would recommend checking out our documentation on improving your SEO, and also the FAQ page we have related to SEO.

One of the best things you can do is add keywords to your store, which can be added in the form of page titles, meta descriptions, and in the body of your product pages and others you have on the store. You’ll want to add keywords that are relevant to your business and your customers, doing so in a legible manner (no spam), and this can make a huge difference in terms of how search engines view and rank your website. If this is not something you have focused on yet I would recommend doing so.

Unfortunately, changes you make to the site aimed at improving your SEO will not be recognized immediately by Google and other search engines. They will need to crawl your site and log the changes before any impact is felt. However, if you have submitted your sitemap to Google then this process should be completed faster.

Thank you Victor, unfortunately I have performed all of the suggestions you’ve recommended and have been doing so for the last 6 months and still nothing can be found. I don’t know what else to try.

Hi @DPS_1 ,

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve not had any positive results from the suggestions I shared previously. At this point, I would recommend getting in touch with our support team directly so that you can be authenticated on your account and our team can then take a closer look. There may be something else we can suggest from taking a closer look at your store, even though optimizing SEO can be an imperfect science.

It’s working now…thanks.

Hi @DPS_1 ,

I’m delighted to hear that you’ve managed to get everything resolved. Please let me know if you’ve any more questions.
