Why can't I use bank statements or Inland Revenue New Zealand letters for address proof?

The only option I can select to verify my address is “Utility bill”. I live with my parents, our bills (electricity, water etc) are not to my name.

It says here that government letters or tax registration are other options for proof of address. https://community.shopify.com/c/shopify-discussions/proof-of-address/td-p/1022253

I am able to provide documents to my name from Inland Revenue New Zealand. Or I can also do bank statement. Why aren’t these shown as options ? How do I prove my address ??

Hi there @ysmn

Welcome to the Shopify Community! You are very welcome here.

From what you have described it sounds like you are trying to submit verification documents for Shopify Payments New Zealand. I’d be happy to help steer in you in the right direction here!

I understand that in your specific situation, you are unable to submit a utility bill with your own name on it, as they are not in your name. That is totally understandable!

The purpose of collecting these various pieces of information is to comply with regulatory requirements designed to prevent money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crimes. As outlined on our Shopify Payments New Zealand help document here, you should be able to submit some other documents to satisfy the address verification requirement. The list of accepted address documents are as follows:

  • Passport
  • Driver license: scans of front and back are required
  • Utility bill
  • Central Government Agency document
  • Local council/government letter
  • Signed rental tenancy agreement
  • Electoral roll papers
  • Insurance policy document
  • Car registration notification/demand
  • Financial statement

If you are unable to submit any of the above documents, then I would suggest reaching out to our support team using this link here so we can authenticate you on the store and pass your query over to our verification team! Here on the Shopify Community we can’t access account information.

Besides your Shopify Payments verification setup, how is everything going with the store? Is this your first time using Shopify?
