Having this small but super annoying problem of shopify using the same store name and my Shopify domain name for every new store I create. A while back I made a store called EXAMPLE, and the myshopify domain was example.myshopify.com. That for whatever reason now every single store I make is called EXAMPLE2, EXAMPLE3 EXAMPLE4. It doesnt ask me the store name at all when signing up. Yes, I know I can just buy a domain and change it but it is super annoying. Any solutions??
When you sign up for a new Shopify store with the same email address, Shopify will automatically add a numerical suffix to the store name to differentiate it from your previous stores. To avoid this, you can either use a different email address for each new store, or you can use the “Create another store” option within your existing Shopify account to create a new store and choose a custom name during the sign-up process.
To create a new store within your existing Shopify account, follow these steps:
Log in to your Shopify account.
Click on the “+” icon in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Select “Create another store” from the drop-down menu.
Follow the prompts to set up your new store and choose a custom name for it.
Hope this can help. Let us know if you need any further support.
I want to echo what @OneCommerce has advised in their answer - the instructions they have given are absolutely correct.
When you signed up for Shopify, you had the opportunity to either create your default domain name, that is your-store.myshopify.com, or you had one generated for you. If you later decide that you want a different .myshopify.com domain name to display to your customers, then you can change it,but only once. Alternatively, if you want to change the web address that’s displayed to customers while they browse your online store to emphasize your brand, then you can buy and add a custom domain as you mentioned above. When you use a custom domain name, your customers don’t see your .myshopify.com domain name. I trust this helps, thnak you!
Unfortunately this is not true right now. There seems to be some kind of glitch where Shopify no longer asks for a store name and instead sets the name as one of your previous stores and sets the myshopify domain to the previous store’s domain with an extra “-1” suffix.
It’s a small but extremely annoying error because as store owners we see this myshopify URL everywhere - we want it to represent the store. It’s also important to have an accurate myshopify URL when running multiple Shopify stores in order to stay organised.
The most annoying thing about all of this is that every time I try and report the error to Shopify, they say “oh this is normal, it’s always been like this”. No it hasn’t!!!
