Why does my domain show 'connection is not secure' error?

I’m getting “The connection for this site is not secure” 5 times out of 10 when I type in my domain in the search bar on my desktop and mobile devices. I purchased my domain from Squarespace and have verified the transfer is correct. Why is the site not secure? See the image below.

Hi @SieteGiftShop

Thank you for reaching out here.

I understand that you are seeing an error on your store saying it is not secure. I’d be happy to help troubleshoot here.

This error could potentially indicate that there is something not quite right with the SSL certificate on the store, which is responsible for the ‘secure’ aspect of a website. There are a few other things that might cause this however, and it could even be device related.

You mentioned that you are typing your domain into the search bar on desktop and mobile devices - can you confirm exactly what URL you are entering? When I type in www.sietegiftshop.com as per your screenshot, the store appears to load perfectly fine and I am seeing no errors. I can see the ‘lock’ icon in the top left, and it says that the connection is secure and there is a valid certificate.

I checked the DNS setup for the domain, and from what I can tell everything seems to be set up correctly. There is an A-Record pointing to Shopify, and the CNAME points to shops.myshopify.com which is perfect.

If you had just recently connected this domain, then it’s possible that the DNS changes simply needed more time to fully propagate - it can actually take up to 48 hours.

If you continue to experience issues, then I would suggest clearing the cache & cookies on your devices, which may help to alleviate any issues with old information being loaded. It is also worth making sure your browser is up to date. Let me know if that helps, and if not we can troubleshoot further here.

Besides the domain setup, how is the rest of your store coming along? Anything in particular you are working on, and might need some guidance with?
