Why does my ID verification keep getting declined?

I try to submit my driver’s license which shows my address and everything needed but it keeps being declined. I’ve built my shop and waiting on this verification to launch it.

“To continue accepting payments, you need to submit some additional details about your business.”

Hello @Alex348

It sounds like you are having trouble verifying your business with Shopify. In order to accept payments on your store, you need to provide some additional details about your business, such as your business name, address, and contact information. This information is used to verify that you are a legitimate business and to comply with legal and financial regulations.

If your driver’s license is being declined, it is possible that the information on the license does not match the information you provided when you set up your Shopify account. For example, the name or address on the license may be different from the name or address you entered when you created your account. In this case, you can try updating the information in your Shopify account to match the information on your driver’s license, and then try submitting the license again.

Alternatively, it is possible that the driver’s license is not a valid form of identification for your business. Depending on your location and the type of business you are operating, there may be specific requirements for the types of identification that you can use to verify your business. You can check the Shopify Help Center or contact Shopify support to find out more about the verification process and the types of identification that are accepted.

If you are still having trouble verifying your business, you can try contacting Shopify support for assistance. They may be able to provide more specific advice or help you resolve any issues with your verification. In the meantime, you can continue to build and prepare your store, but you will not be able to accept payments until your business is verified.

Hello, @Alex348 .

I can definitely understand this is not ideal, let’s see if we can get this ID submitted for you successfully. You mentioned you have tried and it keeps getting declined - can you tell me the exact error message you are seeing when it gets declined?

For some context behind why we are doing this: We’re making updates to our onboarding requirements, which is a common practice; all other businesses and payments providers, like Shopify Payments, must ensure that we are compliant with local regulations. Inputs into these updates include regulatory changes, financial partner requirement changes, card network requirements, and an assessment of our customer portfolio against our company’s risk program. This review is to ensure we’re taking the right steps to help keep the financial services ecosystem healthy. As these reviews will happen periodically, we’ve updated our products and created new tools to help you identify and collect new information when needed.

Some advice for making sure your uploads are accepted: Make sure that the Photo ID is a government issued ID, in .png/.jpeg format, and is clearly legible. Documentation should be the document requested in the admin, should be free of reflections, and should be high enough resolution that the details can be viewed easily. For address verification, we cannot reuse a document. For example, if a driver’s license was used for identity verification, an additional document such as a utility bill will need to be included if an address verification document is required as well. Merchants should only upload these documents through the banner request. Do not save to the Files section in the admin. I hope this helps to clarify things!

So you are almost at store launch time is that correct? How exciting, congratulations! This is the error I get. The problem as well Is I don’t have any other way aside from my driver’s license to verify my business. I don’t have any bills with my name on them. I’ve submitted both sides of my license with the photos being as clear as possible.

I was in contact with Shopify support long before I posted this. This issue has been happening for a while now. I don’t have any bills under my name aside from my license which keeps being declined. Nothing Shopify support has said worked
