Have you checked that the discount code is applied for this product yet?
If you only apply this discount code for specific collections or products but do not include the product added to the cart, the above message will appear.
You should try to apply this to all products and check it again.

Just to gather some additional context, would you happen to know what kind of discount you are wanting to set up?
Typically, if you are receiving this error message it is due to the discount eligibility. You can navigate back to the discount in your Shopify admin and manage the settings to see if the discount is assigned to a specific product. I took a screenshot from my test store to show you the section I am referring to:
