Why is my online store's payment processing not working?

Hi there,
I’ve been trying for a few days to start up an online store as well as start my Shopify subscription. Each time I try to submit my payment for the subscription a message is displayed that says it won’t be accepted by the Shopify payment service provider. Additionally, each time this happens my store becomes inactive. It’s a little bit frustrating simply because I’m just getting started and this seems like it’s supposed to be the easiest step. I’m not sure where to go from here. I appreciate your help.

Before we begin, may I ask which payment method you’re attempting to use to open the account? It’s important to note that you can pay for your Shopify bills (one-time or recurring) by using the following payment methods:

  • a valid credit card from Mastercard, Visa, or American Express
  • a debit card that is co‑branded with Mastercard, Visa, or American Express
  • PayPal in some regions (If you’re based in the United States, then you can’t use PayPal to pay your Shopify bills).
