Why is Shopify POS more expensive than Square?

Just curious why Shopify would think that I would pay $89 per month for POS when Square is free Yes I know you pay per transaction, but you do with Shopify as well plus Shopify’s $89 per month charge. Seems ridiculous!! Would love to be 100% Shopify to make things simple and efficient, but $89 per month is just stupid

However I can’t give an official reason on this, its probably due to the need, demand, and perhaps maintenance costs. If by simple and efficient you mean free or cheaper, there are a lot of variables involved - some platforms are offering specific products/services for free, while charging for others. And vice-versa. The right choice depends on your business model and needs.

I’d recommend you to make a list of things/functionalities that you’d expect to receive from a website builder (Shopify, Wordpress, Squarespace, Wix, etc.), do a comparison and choose YOUR winner.

Shopify can be kind of pricy at times, but if you compare it to the $300 non-opensource Wordpress Business package to simply apply CSS changes, Shopify is cheaper.

I like Shopify. It’s been great for our business. I just don’t like them wanting to charge me a large monthly fee for POS when Square does not. Shopify isn’t cheap, but I do feel it’s worth it. Their POS system is not as it stands today. Thank you for your response. Discussion is valued!!
