I’ve noticed signatures are no longer allowed. For many Partners, signatures helped merchants know who we are and why we’re credible, even when we weren’t promoting anything directly. Without them, it feels harder to justify spending time helping here, since it takes effort and we can’t build that visibility anymore. Could someone explain the reasoning behind this change?

One easy way to get around this is to have a short, conversational intro within your replies (something like “As a Shopify Partner who works with [niche/stores], here’s what I recommend…”). Signatures are deleted automatically in order to keep the forum non promotional, but helpful and continuous help adds up to your profile activity overtime in terms of visibility and credibility.
I suppose the forum admin would like us to concentrate the content of the replies mainly, rather than the additional information in the signature. Anyway, I can still see and tell if it is the user like me or Shopify Partners by clicking the avatar.
