Wildcard redirect for subdomain. .com/en-ca/* -> .com/*

Topic summary

Main issue: After disabling a country-specific market in Shopify Markets, URLs that used a localized path (e.g., .com/en-ca/*) now return 404s. This creates SEO risks when consolidating or “merging” markets back to an International setup.

Requested solution: A wildcard redirect (e.g., .com/en-ca/* → .com/*) or an automatic handling by Shopify to map legacy localized paths to the default site without needing per-URL redirects.

Constraints and impact: Manually redirecting each URL is not feasible at scale and harms organic performance while Google “figures it out.” This pain point is noted both for market changes and for merchants migrating to Shopify.

Community context: Others report the same need and highlight a lack of official guidance or responses.

Status: No solution or workaround provided in the thread; issue remains open and unresolved.

Hi,

we are using Shopify markets and they don’t handle case when you change mind and turn off come country. For example we had Canadian subdomain .com/en-ca/* and we want merge projects, when we just turn off market back to International we getting 404 on every link. Terrible for seo let naturally figure out google without redirects. Redirect each link not a solution.

It would be great if work some kind wildcard or Shopify handle it self this cases…

Any solution @Shopify_77 ?

We would like a solution for this as well, lots of comments about this type of an issue for merchants migrating TO shopify, but no solutions or even replies…
