Workflow help

Topic summary

Shopify Flow automation for a welcome email is not triggering when new subscribers sign up through either a Spinio popup or Shopify’s native email signup form. The key symptom is that Flow shows “No runs,” even though test addresses appear in the store’s email subscriber segment and double opt-in is reportedly off.

Main points raised:

  • The likely mismatch is between simply collecting an email and a true “subscribed to email marketing” event, which may require a confirmed marketing opt-in during checkout, account creation, or another qualifying action.
  • “Email Subscribers” and “Marketing Email Subscribers” may be different statuses, so appearing in one segment may not satisfy the Flow trigger.
  • A screenshot of the Flow setup was provided to show the current configuration.

Suggested actions:

  • Test with Shopify Flow’s default welcome email template instead of a custom workflow.
  • Temporarily disable third-party apps like Spinio and verify subscription status directly in the customer record.
  • Ensure the related Shopify email/messaging setup is active.
  • If the default template still fails, contact Shopify Support; Spinio-specific issues should go to Spinio.

Status: no confirmed resolution yet; troubleshooting remains ongoing.

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with a Shopify Flow automation for my store (www.love-box.co). I have created a “Welcome Email” sequence intended for new email subscribers, but it is not triggering when someone signs up via my spinio wheel pop up or shopifys email subscribe box.

Here is my set up

The Issue: Even when using a brand-new test email address that has never interacted with the store, the Flow shows “No runs” in the activity log.

I have already checked the following:

  1. Double Opt-in: I have verified whether this is off.

  2. Segments: The test email does appear in the “Email Subscribers” segment in my Shopify Admin, but the Flow still doesn’t fire.

  3. App Conflicts: I am using the Spinio app, but it also does not fire when I put an email in “SIGN UP” section which I believe uses shopify.

Has anyone experienced a delay or a specific trick to getting the “Customer subscribed to email makreting” trigger to recognise a new signup immediately?

That workflow may be expecting “subscribed to email marketing” to be with an OPT-IN , during checkout or account creation, which is not the same as just providing an email.

Search first it’s the rules, show your work on this, respects your time and others to use EXISTING knowledge

Then try a default template in flow unmodified, then contact shopify support direclty if a flow template isn’t working as expected

The flow may also be missing a required check of the opt-in confirmation.

Email Subscribers and Marketing Email Subscribers can be different concepts.

For third party app issues contact THAT third party.

I’ll second the standard default template. You didn’t need to create your own. It’s already there.

Turn off 3rd party apps first. Then verify with your own email that you subscribed in your customer details. You can undo this by unckecking the box, and verify over and over.

One you know without a doubt that the subscribe form does indeed work, then you can simply turn on the default template, make sure the email is active in Shopify Messaging, subscribe on your own, and watch for the email. It shouldn’t take more than 2 minutes.

If it truly doesn’t work, contact Support.
