Hi, I configured the spotlight theme and got my store set up then the trial ran out. It reset the store, but I can see that there’s an intact version of the store archived. I bought the Starter plan, but I still can’t go back to the archived theme. I have a message that tells me I need to upgrade my plan to restore the website, but there’s no information about this on the plan page. I would like to go back so I don’t have to do all the work setting it up again.
AI-generated summary
Main issue: After a trial expired, a store configured with the Spotlight theme shows an intact archived version, but on the Starter plan it can’t be restored; an in-app message says an upgrade is required, yet plan details don’t clearly state this.
Staff clarification: On the Starter plan, Spotlight uses a simplified theme editor. Themes created/customized with the full editor (available on Basic/Shopify/Advanced) won’t work on Starter. While on Starter, previously customized themes appear only in an archived/read-only state and cannot be edited or published. Restoring full functionality requires upgrading to a higher plan; support can assist with plan options.
New concern: Another user reports the same limitation and asks whether Spotlight on Starter lacks features like a homepage banner and collection sections, implying it may only show individual products. This capability question remains unanswered in the thread.
Status and actions:
- Resolution for restoration: upgrade off Starter to access the full theme editor and publish the archived theme.
- Open question: exact homepage/collection features available in Spotlight on Starter.
Hey, @bluerosearchive !
Thanks for reaching out here in the Community Forums.
The Spotlight theme comes with a simplified online theme editor, which is different to the theme editor on our Basic, Shopify or Advanced Plans. Essentially, the archived theme won’t work on the Starter plan. Once you upgrade the simplified theme editor will expand to the full theme editor, including all functionality.
While on the Starter plan your access will be limited, i.e., you can only see themes you have customized but cannot edit or publish (essentially in an “archived” state).
Should you wish to upgrade your plan, you can contact our live support here for further assistance and discuss what your business needs are.
May I ask what type of business it is and what you’re selling?
Had the same issue this morning, While I understand what has happened I feel that this could/should be made much clearer up front.
We have spent time customising our theme and setting up the store ready to pay for the plan and start using the site but now we are in a situation where we need to re-implement a load of changes and it looks like the spotlight theme doesn’t have some of the functionality that we had previously like a home page banner or a way to customise the home page to show collections etc.
Is that correct? Can the spotlight theme not show collections and will just always show individual products?
