406 Error

Topic summary

Users are encountering a 406 error when checking their Shopify account page links using deadlinkchecker.com, specifically URLs formatted as shopify.com/[store-id]/account?locale=en&region_country=AU.

Key concerns:

  • The links function normally when accessed directly but trigger 406 errors in link checkers
  • This is causing issues with Google Merchant Center (GMC) compliance, particularly related to misrepresentation errors
  • Multiple users report the same problem

Current understanding:

  • The 406 error appears intentional—Shopify’s account pages are designed to block crawlers and automated checkers for security reasons
  • While the links work for actual users, automated tools interpret the blocking as a broken link

Unresolved questions:

  • Whether this impacts GMC approval status
  • How to fix or work around the issue
  • No solution has been provided yet

Hey everyone,

I am getting a misrepresentation error for GMC, one of the things I have been going through is any broken links I have.

My final broken link I am not sure how to approach. So the link is live and works but I am getting a 406 error according to deadlinkchecker.com

The link that I am getting this issue for is: https://shopify.com/60097462320/account?locale=en&region_country=AU

The link itself is live but is coming up on the deadlinkchecker. Just checking if

  1. This impacts me being on GMC

  2. If this is something I can fix and how

Thanks everyone!

I came here for the exact same problem. I had 8 links and I fixed 7 by myself, but I am stumped on this one. I hope someone who knows what to do will reply soon.

Hi - This is related to the link to the Shopify accounts page getting a 406 error. Of course we don’t want crawlers checking out accounts pages hance the logic but as we know they take a locked door personally!
