Users are encountering issues managing market settings in Shopify stores, specifically being unable to change or remove their primary active market.
Core Problem:
The active market lacks an “edit” or “more actions” option—only “preview” appears
Inactive markets show they need shipping rates added, but the active market also has no shipping rates configured
Users cannot access the three-dot menu typically available for market management
Potential Causes:
One user suspects the issue stems from initially setting up the store in a different country (Bulgaria) before changing the primary location to Australia in settings
Question raised about whether the platform incorrectly identifies the setup as a physical store
Attempted Solutions:
One user resolved the issue by deleting the entire store and starting over
Another user suggests the default active market cannot be removed, and recommends adding shipping rates under Settings > Shipping & Delivery to activate other markets
Current Status:
No confirmed solution has been found. The discussion remains open with users seeking ways to change their primary market location without rebuilding their stores.

I am in the process of setting up a Shopify store. On the Markets tab I want to change my primary active market. I read through the discussions and it says that I need to click on the active one and click edit but I don’t have an edit option (just preview).
There are two markets that appear as inactive and it says that they are inactive because I have not added shipping rates. However I have not added shipping rates yet for any of them (including the one that appears as active).
How do I remove my current active market? How can I make the inactive markets active?
On my end, I don’t see three dots next to the active market. Everything that appears is as per the screenshot. Normally, I think I should be able to click on the active market and in the upper right corner there should be three tabs: preview, more actions, active (or inactive). However, when I click on it I don’t have these three options, I only have the Preview option as per the screenshot.
I originally started setting up the store when I was in Bulgaria. I have changed the location everywhere in the settings and have put Australia as primary location. So I have the feeling that this issue comes from somewhere else in the settings. Is there a chance that the platform thinks that I am setting up a physical store? I wonder if that has sth to do with the issue.
Your currently active market is the default and cannot be removed. To enable other markets, first add shipping rates under Settings > Shipping & Delivery. Once the rates are set, you will be able to activate those markets.
This can be confusing at first. Shopify won’t let you fully edit or switch your primary market until basic requirements like shipping rates are set up. Even if your current active market doesn’t show rates, it’s usually using default settings in the background. Try adding at least one shipping rate for the market you want to activate—once that’s done, the Edit option should appear and you’ll be able to set it as active. You can’t remove the primary market completely, but you can replace it by activating another one.
