Hello. I am trying to figure out a way to add more keywords/ search terms to each individual product on my site. Using the Search & Discovery app only allows 10 search terms and doesn’t seem to work even after adding specific search terms and suing them in the search field on my site. Is there a way to either add hidden text in the product description that will contain the keywords/ search terms I want or an app that I can use to add specific terms to specific products? Thanks for any help or insight.
Topic summary
Users are seeking ways to add more keywords and search terms to individual products beyond Shopify’s Search & Discovery app, which limits entries to 10 terms and reportedly doesn’t function reliably.
Proposed Solutions:
- Use product tags under “Product organization” for searchable keywords
- Consider hidden text in product descriptions (feasibility unclear)
- Explore third-party apps for keyword management
Key Concerns:
- Need to target common misspellings and grammar variations without displaying them in visible content (e.g., “salve,” “ointment,” “cream” as synonyms)
- Product tags don’t appear to register properly with SEO tools despite being added
- Shopify’s native SEO capabilities are criticized as inadequate, requiring apps, coding modifications, or expert consultation
Status: The discussion remains open with no definitive solution. One user questions whether migrating back to WordPress might be necessary for better keyword control.
Hello, @joshwp .
Thank you for posting this question!
You can add keywords to specific products using tags and customers will be able to search the store using these keywords. The tags for products can be found under the Product organization section of each product.
That being said, I’d love to hear more about your business! What types of products are you selling? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?
I have the same issue. People search Google everyday with bad grammar and misspelled words. I don’t want to use bad grammar or misspelled words but I would like to return my page in SERPS when someone searches for it. I need to target people’s search terms. I can get 100 keywords for my product but cannot include all of them in the product description. It can be called a salve, an ointment, a cream but I would not put all of that in the page content. Maybe I have to go back to WP to do that?
i added those words to the tag all the time but when SEO app or tool shows i had no keywords. not sure why shopify has such a bad SEO setting in general. it should have this built in not like we have to buy apps, hire SEO expert or change coding to solve this.
