My business is small but I would like to offer the discount option to military and first responders . Verify ID.me is too expensive to me to put on my site. I don’t want to pay for something that I will use couple times a month. Is there a alternative to id.me that it’s been in use for a while and will charge me per use only?

Do the math if the process to do X costs more than the revenue it creates Y you’re likely wasting your time.
If Y is greater than X your wasting time and money not paying for the process and moving on.
Meta alternative: write your representatives about the complications of online identity, it’s rather absurd there’s not a way for people to securely share identification, that’s verifiable with the bare minimum privacy exposure, without middlemen services because everyday people can’t spot fakes.
