Dear Shopify Support Team,
I hope you’re doing well. I previously purchased a domain through Shopify for my online store (hlaatsy.com), but after some time, I found that Shopify Mobile provides better traction for my business. As I transition to Shopify Mobile, I would like to understand the process for claiming my domain so I can continue using it for my business email.
Additionally, I’d appreciate your guidance on whether I’ll be able to migrate my existing data from my online store to Shopify Mobile and the steps involved.
Thank you for your time and support—I look forward to your response.
Best regards,
Faith
Hi @Hlaatsy
You can continue using your domain (hlaatsy.com) by going to Settings > Domains in your Shopify admin. From there, you can manage or connect the domain to your business email (via Zoho, Google Workspace, etc.) by updating the DNS records.
Regarding migration: if you’re just switching to the Shopify mobile app, no migration is needed—your store data stays the same. But if you’re moving to a new Shopify store, you’ll need to export/import products, customers, and orders via CSV files, or use the Store Importer app.
That said, this process—especially DNS configuration and structured data migration—is best handled by a professional to avoid any data loss or domain/email misconfigurations. If you’d like my assistance, I’d be happy to help at a very reasonable cost.

Hi Faith,
Here is a potential solution! Please make sure your data is backed up before making any changes.
Transitioning from Shopify Online (Web) to Shopify Mobile while migrating your store data involves both technical and operational steps, depending on exactly what you’re aiming to do. Here’s a clear breakdown:
Understanding the Transition
Shopify Mobile refers to the Shopify mobile app experience — for managing your store, not hosting it. Your domain and storefront remain on the web, but Shopify Mobile helps you manage:
-
Orders
-
Products
-
Inventory
-
Customers
-
Marketing
-
Analytics
If you meant transitioning how your store appears on mobile devices (e.g., optimizing for mobile visitors), that’s a design and theme issue.
If you meant moving your online presence from a web-first to a mobile-app-first store (e.g., launching a mobile app for your store), that’s a more complex project involving third-party apps or custom development.
Data Migration Checklist (Shopify to Shopify)
If you’re migrating from one Shopify store to another, here’s what you should migrate:
1. Products- Export via Products > Export (CSV file)
- Import into the new store via Products > Import
2. Customers- Go to Customers > Export
3. Orders- Cannot be imported into Shopify natively
- Use an app like Matrixify or Cart2Cart if you need order history
4. Themes and Customizations- Download the theme (ZIP) from Online Store > Themes > Actions > Download theme file
- Upload it to the new store
5. Pages, Blogs, and Navigation- Manually recreate or use an app like Matrixify
- For small stores, manual copy-paste is often easier
6. Domain- Go to Settings > Domains
Shopify Mobile-Specific Considerations
If you’re focusing on improving the mobile user experience, here’s what to focus on:
Mobile Optimization Steps- Use a mobile-optimized theme (e.g., Dawn, Debut, or Turbo)
-
Test mobile view in Shopify theme editor
-
Use tools like Google Mobile-Friendly Test
-
Minimize popups and large images on mobile
Creating a Mobile App for Shopify Store
Use third-party apps like:
-
Shopify’s Shop App (automatic)
-
Tapcart, Plobal Apps, or MageNative (build native iOS/Android apps)
-
Custom development with Shopify Storefront API
