Can I use a Debit Card for a monthly subscription for Shopify basic plan?

You can use a credit card or a debit card to pay for your Shopify bills as long as it is from, or co-branded with, Mastercard, Visa, or American Express. It’s also important to ensure the following with your payment method:
- Your credit or debit card needs to allow for recurring payments in USD
- Your credit or debit card needs to have international capabilities

Hey Summer, I tried to put my debit card in but kept getting the same error saying “The credit card was rejected by our payment services provider.” Is there a way to fix this?

After visiting the link and logging in, you’ll be prompted to enter the topic of your concern so we can connect you to the right articles and support team. I emailed and created a support ticket but have not heard anything back in hours. How long does it take on average for someone to respond to the support ticket or a follow up email?

Hey summer, I made a support ticket last night and they got back to me this morning saying they need a screenshot to help me out better. I replied to the email with a screenshot and still have not heard anything back…its been 12 hours, any help?

I hope you were able to hear back from the support advisor you were speaking to. The standard response time applies here as well, so you can expect a reply to come within 24-72 hours. If you didn’t receive a reply within that timeframe, you’re welcome to create a new support ticket to request an update.

The key difference is that debit cards are linked to a bank account and draw directly from those moneys (similar to a check). A credit card, on the other hand, does not draw any money immediately and must be paid back in the future, subject to any interest charges accrued.
