Can customers choose their own gift card amount?

Is there any way for a customer to type in the amount they would like to put onto a gift card as opposed to choosing from a list of variants?

No native way for non-Plus plans.

In Shopify POS, however, you can enter custom amounts for gift cards that are purchased in person.

Shopify Plus is required to have access to the giftcard api to then be able to generate custom gift card amounts.

A workaround can be literally making many many giftcards to get every minimum denomination in a range i.e $10 would mean 100x products each with 100 variants for $0.01 to $10.00 each.

Use product import CSV in excel to do something like this formulaically. Keeping mind " You can’t initially create a gift card through a product CSV file import."

Then in tandem with theme customization to present it as if what a customer is entering makes that giftcard value though it’s really just picking from that premade list of denominations.

Or use a third party service like Rise.ai and build something custom.

It is not possible for customers to manually choose the value of the gift card they wish to purchase and they must instead choose from a list of predetermined values determined by the merchant. This is the standard for the majority of online stores who offer gift card purchases.

However, merchants do have the ability to issue a gift card to a specific customer that is of a value of their choice. You could encourage merchants to reach out to you directly if they wish to make a gift card purchase of a custom value, and once they have paid you, you can create and issue them a gift card in Products > Gift cards. Payment for the gift card could be processed via a draft order.
