Can I set up payments on a UK-based company from Egypt?

Hello If i live in egypt and have a company in uk,a uk bank account and a director that lives in uk will i have a problem setting up shopify payments and verification that the director can do as he live in UK

Dear @Mohamedsalah

Setting up Shopify Payments for your business, given that you are based in Egypt with a company and a director in the UK, should be feasible without major issues. The key requirements for using Shopify Payments in the UK include having a Shopify store based in the UK, a UK bank account, and a valid government-issued ID from the UK. Additionally, the individual setting up the account needs to be a significant control person, such as an owner, senior executive, or director, and must provide personal details that match their legal government-issued ID.

Since your company is based in the UK and you have a director living there with access to a UK bank account, these requirements appear to be met. It’s crucial that the director, as the account representative, has the legal authority to bind your company to Shopify Payments Terms of Service.

Also, it’s important to complete the Shopify Payments account setup, including all business details and banking information, within 21 days of your first sale. This is particularly relevant for stores in the European Union, where you must complete this setup before you can accept payments.

In summary, as long as the legal and banking requirements are satisfied in the UK, and the director is able to provide the necessary information and verifications, setting up Shopify Payments for your store should not pose significant obstacles.

I hope this helps.

All the Best

Hello,

I would like to inquire about setting up Shopify payments for my UK-based company and registered with Company House while I am based in Egypt. I am both the director and owner of the company. Can I activate it smoothly or I’m not eligible for it? Thank you.

If you live in Egypt but your business is a UK-registered company with a UK bank account and a UK-resident director, you can set up Shopify Payments — as long as the UK director is listed as the owner or person of significant control.

Shopify’s Requirements:- The person verifying Shopify Payments must live in the country where the business is registered (in this case, the UK).

  • They’ll need to provide a valid UK ID and UK proof of address.

If you (in Egypt) are listed as the primary owner, it may be rejected since Shopify Payments doesn’t currently support Egypt.

Alternative Solution:

You can use WallidPay — a flexible payment gateway for international business owners. It works:

  • Even if you’re not based in a supported country

  • For high-risk products (like vape, CBD, adult)

  • With no VAT registration required upfront
