We launched with Shopify about 3 months ago. We are now needing to make changes to some of our products, specifically the product vendor and product type. When we change those fields on a product and rerun our sales reports the changes are not reflected. Based on what I have read it looks like it is not possible to change product attributes and have them update previous orders. Is is not possible to update certain product attributes to reclassify previous orders? Again, I’m not trying to change the order just attributes of the product so our sales reports are totaled differently.
We came across the same issue today. We updated the product type field for a number of products.
However, the “Sales by product” report still shows the old product type value.
The order itself (when you go to any order and append .json to the URL, you will see it) has its own product type value, which is not updated when the actual product type in the product changes.
We think that this is the cause of the issue.
It is really confusing for merchants and is hopefully a known bug.

The same with the product names - just use “Product Name” from the Order Items table to get historical values, or Name from the Products table to get actual value.
