Hi @WolfATX

I totally get how frustrating it can be when you’re trying to upload a CSV to Shopify and it just won’t work. Since you already had someone look into it, but the issue persists, let’s go over a few key things that might help you fix or delete the problematic upload.

Why Can’t You Upload the CSV?

There are a few common reasons why a CSV file won’t upload properly in Shopify:

  1. Formatting Issues – Shopify requires CSV files to follow a specific structure. If there’s even one small formatting error (like missing column headers, incorrect values, or extra spaces), the upload might fail.
  2. File Encoding Problems – The file needs to be in UTF-8 format. If you used Excel, sometimes it saves in a different format by default.
  3. Incorrect Column Names – Shopify has strict requirements for column headers. Even a slight mismatch (like “Title” instead of “title”) can cause an error.
  4. Special Characters or Empty Fields – Extra characters, commas, or blank fields in required columns might cause the upload to fail.

How to Fix It- Check Formatting: Open the CSV in Google Sheets or Excel and make sure it matches Shopify’s sample template. You can download Shopify’s official CSV template here: Shopify CSV Format Guide.

  • Save in UTF-8: If you used Excel, re-save the file as “CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited)”.
  • Use a Validator: Try opening your CSV in Google Sheets and exporting it again as CSV. This often corrects formatting issues automatically.
  • Test with a Small Batch: If you have a large file, try uploading only a few rows first to see if the error persists.

How to Delete the CSV Import

If you’ve uploaded a CSV and it’s causing issues, you can remove it by:

  1. Manually Deleting Products: Go to Products > Select the imported items > Bulk Actions > Delete selected products.
  2. Re-importing a Blank CSV: Upload a CSV with only the column headers (no product data) to overwrite any incorrect data.
  3. Using a Bulk Delete App: If you have too many products to delete manually, use an app like Matrixify to bulk delete.

Final Thoughts

If you’re still stuck, try Shopify’s CSV import/export tool again, and if nothing works, reaching out to Shopify support might be the best bet. They can check if there are any system-side issues affecting your store.

If you need extra help, just let me know asap. Thanks
