Does combining product discounts not actually work?

Or is it a bug?

I’ve created 2 simple discounts for 2 different types of items but they won’t stack when added to the cart - only the higher of the two applies. However I configure it, set to combine, not to combine etc. it still has the same result.

If it isn’t actually possible to combine these discounts why is the option offered?

Or is it, but I’m missing something?

Any help much appreciated!

Hello,

I haven’t launched my site yet, just testing this all out beforehand!

For context, I’ve created one product discount to buy 2 t-shirts for fixed amount discount, and another to buy 2 sweatshirts for a fixed amount discount. They are 2 different types of item in 2 different product categories.

It won’t upload my screenshot but here is the wording that appears after checking the ‘combinations’, ‘product discount’ box as it’s confusing:

“If an item is eligible for multiple product discounts, only the largest will apply.”

This might explain why it isn’t working, except that I interpret “an item” as being the item type specified in the discount, meaning that other different items in the order wouldn’t be affected. If they actually are - that being why it’s not working - then there’s no point in having the option to combine!

Any ideas or experience with this? It’s baffling.

Classic, I have this exact problem and nobody from Shopify has come to answer. I want to apply the world’s simplest upsell, buy a thing and get a shirt for $10 off. When I go to my cart, the only way I can get the discounts to combine is if I make the shirt discount global, meaning it always applies.

I’m convinced this is a bug, there’s nothing that should stop this conditional discount from applying.
