Draft Orders - Request to bring back the old market changing functionality

Topic summary

A Shopify merchant reports that recent changes to draft order functionality have removed the ability to directly change markets (which affects shipping fees and taxes).

Previous workflow:

  • Markets could be changed directly within draft orders
  • Process was streamlined and efficient

Current situation:

  • Merchants must now either request customer addresses (adding communication delays and conversion risk) or create workarounds like dummy customers
  • The change is viewed as a deterioration rather than an improvement

Merchant request:
Asking Shopify to revert to the previous functionality, as the new process is more complicated, time-consuming, and potentially harmful to conversion rates. The issue remains unresolved with no official response yet.

Hey there,

with disappointment I had to find out that the way to change draft order markets has (in my perception) been crippled since the last update.

We were able to just change the market (with respective shipping fees and taxes) in draft orders. Now this is not possible anymore. Now one has to either get the address from the customer (another message, another waiting time, another risk of not converting) or to create workarounds like dummy customers.

The improvement behind this change is not understandable to us, since it feels like a clear deterioration from the previous status quo.

Dear Shopify-Team: Please change that back! It was perfectly fine for our workflows and customer communication like it was before. The new way is more complicated, takes more time, and bears a risk of loosing the conversion that has not been there before.

Thank you,
Christian
