Email help

Just want to verify if this email is real or scam

contact.shopifyhelpdesk.com@gmail.com

thanks

@Moniquepiliae ,

The email contact.shopifyhelpdesk.com@gmail.com is a scam. Shopify will never use a generic Gmail address. Always check for official Shopify domains like @shopify.com.

If it resolves your issue, please mark my answer as a solution or if you still need assistance, let me know. Thank you.

Hi there, @Moniquepiliae ! Thanks for taking the time to reach out to the Shopify Community Forums today with your question around this email address! My name is Imogen. It’s good to meet you!

As @shahrozbabar5 mentioned above, that email address is not an official Shopify email address. Shopify will not send you emails ending in @gmail.com’. Your first instinct whenever you receive an email coming from Shopify should be to check the email address to see if it ends in @shopify.com’. If you ever receive an email from Shopify and are unsure of it’s legitimacy, it’s best to reach out to our Support Team directly via our Help Center so we can quickly verify if the address belongs to Shopify or not, as we don’t always have folks available in the forums to provide information.

When receiving emails pretending to be Shopify, it’s important to NOT engage with any of the links within those emails, as they may be attempts to steal your account credentials. If you have engaged with any links from this email, it’s important to run a virus scan on your device, and then change your login information for Shopify.

When emails like these go out, they’re usually part of something called a ‘Phishing Attempt’, where someone is trying to trick you to provide your account information to them. Our Security Team takes situations like these very seriously, and we request that folks take the time to pass along the ‘headers’ from any emails they receiving pretending to be Shopify.

To have this email reviewed further, we ask that you share it to our Safety inbox along with the email Header information. Email headers are a part of the email code that includes sender details, allowing us to determine the email’s source and report it to the appropriate parties if it is a phishing campaign.

  1. Obtain the Email’s Headers:
  • See MX Toolbox’s guide for Getting Email Headers
  • Selecting your email service provider on the left-hand navigation
  • Follow the steps outlined there to download a copy of the .eml file or copy the email’s source code and paste it into a text file
  1. Attach the file to the email you received and forward it to safety@shopify.com
