I plan to use weight based carrier calculated shipping in my store.
In each “Product”, you can input the weight. Should this just be the product weight? Or product weight + packaging weight?
I ask this because when you go to Settings à Shipping & Delivery when you scroll to the bottom there is an area to input package size and weight.
Would this be added to the first “product” weight that I mentioned?

You’re absolutely correct — you’ll just need to enter the product weight within each of your product pages.
If you’re using Shopify Shipping to calculate live carrier-calculated rates, when a customer places an order on your store their total order’s weight (product weight + default package weight) will be sent to the shipping carrier so that they can calculate the most accurate shipping rates for the customer.
