This article is a great starting point to learn about shipping rates on Shopify.
If you’re using Weight-based rates Flatrates, it’s necessary to set up the product weight.
Weight is is also important for Carrier calculated rates. These rates are calculated by the carrier based on the shipping addresses and package weight. Unlike Flatrate shipping, you don’t need to configure rates for each shipping zone. Just make sure your location is set up correctly, and the product weight is configured. The checkout address will be used automatically.
Remember, you need a carrier account to integrate your app with the carrier. You can use Shopify shipping account or your own carrier account.
If your product has high volumetric weight, you need to input box dimensions. For this, you might use an app like Multi Carrier Shipping Label app.
If you’re using your own carrier account, make sure CCS (Carrier Calculated Shipping) is enabled on your plan.
