Facebook and Instagram app

Hello guys whenever I try to connect my facebook to shopify I get an error message, under business assests it keeps saying something went wrong after I link my facebook account. I have tried incognito, different broswer, clearing cache and I been on support twice they cleared the store cache and then directed me to meta support. Meta is terrible and they have not got back to me. The email of the business portfolio I am trying to connect is exactly the same and the email I use for shopify as well. If anyone can help that would be great, thanks in advance :slightly_smiling_face:

It sounds like you’ve tried most of the common troubleshooting steps, but you’re still running into the “Something went wrong” error when connecting Facebook to Shopify. Here are a few additional things you can check and try:

1. Confirm Business Manager Ownership & Assets- Go to Meta Business Manager and ensure:

  • Your business is verified (check under “Security Center”).
  • You are the admin of the Business Manager (not just an employee).
  • The Facebook Page, Ad Account, and Instagram (if applicable) are owned by the Business Manager and correctly assigned.

2. Check Facebook Permissions- Visit Facebook Business Integrations.

  • Remove Shopify from the list of connected apps.
  • Reconnect it from Shopify and grant all permissions when prompted.

3. Ensure Facebook Page & Commerce Account Are Set Up Correctly- In Meta Business Manager, go to Business Settings → Accounts → Pages and check:

  • Your Facebook Page is linked to the correct Business Manager.
  • You are the admin (not just an editor).
  • If using Facebook Commerce Manager, ensure it is set up correctly:

4. Reconnect Facebook in Shopify1. In Shopify, go to Settings → Apps and sales channels.

  1. Remove the Facebook & Instagram sales channel.
  2. Reinstall it and follow the connection steps carefully.

5. Try a Different Facebook Business Manager

If you have access to another Business Manager, try linking it to test if the issue is account-related.

6. Check for Policy Violations- Go to Facebook Account Quality to see if there are restrictions on your business assets.

7. Contact Shopify & Meta Again- Sometimes Shopify support can escalate the issue.

  • For Meta, try reaching out through Facebook Business Help.
  • If you have an ad account with active ad spend, try contacting Facebook Ads Support for a faster response.
