Getting the credentials of a Shopify store that ripped me off

Topic summary

Multiple users report being scammed by FC-Shopify.com, a fraudulent store that has since gone offline. The original poster placed two orders, received confirmations from suspicious Gmail addresses, but cannot reach customer service or access the now-defunct website.

Key Issues:

  • Store displayed a fake “Shopify Safe to Shop” badge
  • Suspicious domain name and Gmail-based contact addresses
  • Site completely disappeared after orders were placed
  • No response to customer service emails

Recommended Actions:

  • File disputes through payment providers (PayPal or credit card)
  • Submit fraud claims/chargebacks, which typically freeze merchant funds during investigation
  • Contact banks directly for assistance

Important Clarifications:

  • Shopify cannot legally disclose merchant information or confirm if a business uses their platform
  • Shopify is not a marketplace and has no access to individual store operations
  • Recovery must be pursued through payment methods, not Shopify directly

At least one other user reports a similar experience from May 2023, with identical patterns including Facebook Marketplace listings under different vendor names. PayPal denied their claim, stating the transaction was ineligible.

I placed 2 orders with FC-Shopify.com and received confirmations of my orders from NIU jmservicefor@gmail.com this morning when I went to check the status of my orders the store site was down. I have had no response from several emails to their customer service: qwsazxuthgbv664@gmail.com . The site had a Shopify “Safe to Shop” tag at the lower right of the site. I would like Shopify to supply me with the information that they have for this vendor so that I can pursue them for my refund. I appreciate any help that can be provided.

Oof, with that domain name + those emails addresses + “Shopify Safe to Shop” badge this definitely sounds like a scammer to me.

Since they didn’t respond to your emails I would go through the payment provider you used (looks like PayPal) to submit a case for fraud.

I’m not sure Shopify would share private details of a customer, and if the store’s closed there’s probably not a way for the vendor to refund you anyway, best bet I think is go through your payment method.

Hi, @dolvey

Thank you for posting your frustrating situation.

While this is definitely a stressful, unfortunate situation, Shopify is unable to provide the details of the business you purchased from. Legally, we can’t disclose if a business does or doesn’t use our software. Additionally, as Shopify is not a marketplace, each business that uses our platform is it’s own independent store, and we don’t have access to their business operations. We do, however, provide a detailed FAQ for customers in your situation.

As @JoesIdeas mentioned. The best solution to recover your funds is via your payment method. If a chargeback is filed and a business is using Shopify Payments or PayPal, the funds are pulled from the merchant’s account while the banks investigate. In these situations, the funds are generally returned.

I placed an order on May 5, 2023 and received an email confirmation of my order and invoice. I checked on the status for over a week and it showed as being processed. This week everything disappeared from the link. I have copies of all correspondence. I see that similar postings are listed through Facebook Marketplace, but with difference vendor names. I have submitted a claim through Paypal and they said that this transaction was not eligible.
