Google Analytic, Facebook Pixel tags and Shopify CDN impact to the page speed?

I have read a lot of article about the causes of the slow web page speed. Seems the only thing one can do by myself is compressing the image.

It’s does not really help to significantly increase my site speed.

My store currently score 32 only. I’ve Google analytic, facebook pixel tags in the theme.liquid and installed 10 Apps into the store. Those apps provide extra feature and function to my store, thus I think they’re worth to keep and run. Beside I learn that some factors we cannot control link. Those should the majority causes of the low score.

I wonder under those criteria, what should be the fair speed score?

Optimizing speed is an advance science. That is for sure. Having said that there are other things than just image optimization you can do. But lets start with that?

How did you optimize the images? Both size, proper assignment of width and height and compression is important. There are good Apps, such as TinyIMG that will do all this for you (without slowing your site down, as it only process images - not run in users browsers).

The theme you use can also have a big influence. Unfortunately not all themes are coded well enough for speed. The new Shop Online 2.0 Theme is probably one of the fastest now. Consider if a faster theme may help you.

And then the Apps. 10 Apps sounds like a lot. Many of them can contribute to a slower speed. Are you 100% sure you really need them all?

By the end of the day speed is, as many other elements, a relative game. Your goal should be to be faster than the other websites you compete with. A score of just 32 does however seem a bit low.

The score do not take into account that some of your users may be on slow connections and old outdated browsers. That will just make it worse.

In Google Analytics there is a speed report that shows the actual speed with your users. Look at that. Also look at Google Search Console. These are probably your two best and most valid sources.

Score is not a linear measure it’s an indicator of improvement you can achieve.

The goal is for sites to load fast and respect users time and bandwidth without delays or freezes.

i.e. a pleasant experience free of slideshows, excessively large images and video, widgets and doodads running unnecessary code etc

That is a fallacy, any apps affecting the frontend need a provable hard money amount attached to them.

If you have high traffic even marginal speed gains improve conversions and decrease bounce rates.

Meanwhile apps affecting the frontend slow the site down costing more money than just their monthly fee.

I used SEO doctor to compress the image which were shown problematic. I’m would try them suggested App to see if any room for improvement.

I did not aware use different theme would help the score, great suggestion. It would be the next thing to try.

The 10Apps I have applied into the shop are:

Coupon X: This is interesting app increase the engagement with the customer.

Customer Privacy(by shopify): I don’t really know the impact if I remove it.

Facebook & Google: Those app were installed when I added the facebook & Google as sales channel.

Page Speed Optimizer: Since my store has low speed problem, I installed it to see if any help!

Sales Boost - Sunflower: This App show the estimate delivery date(like Amazon) to customer. I think it is great info to let customer.

Shopify Email:

Social Login Pro - Let customer login with their social account. This help customer to login and sign in member quickly. I think it would help.

Wishlist King - Since my store has over 1000items, I think the wish list is helping customer to remember what is like.

Invoice Wizard - Suppose is it not that important, I should delete it.

I also test my site speed with google console and analytic and 3rd party application(like Ubersuggest), all have similar poor result. They listed a lot of data in different presentation to explains the cause of the issue. Honestly, I have difficulty to understand.

Despite the score, the real speed I’ve experienced by using different device(other phone, tablet and laptop) are not too bad by personal feeling. Anyway, I fully aware the low score impact my SEO ranking. I have to fix the problem.
