I am hoping someone can help me here since I cannot find any sort of e-mail or phone number for customer support, which is incredibly frustrating.
Today, my Shopify Point of Sale software has decided to remove sales tax on all of my product buttons. I have double checked all of my products and they all are marked as taxable and everything worked just fine yesterday. When you hit a product button it adds the tax and then 3 seconds later rolls it back to 0. I have no idea why this is happening.
The only way to get Shopify to charge tax on an item is by manually entering a custom sale, which we can and will do in the meantime, but being able to utilize product buttons for items we repeatedly sell helps speed things up since we are such a busy store.
…following… having the same problem… Noticed my Sales Tax ID was missing in the “Taxes & Duties” in settings. I updated that, which I’m not sure why it wasnt there to begin with, and still no change.
Same issue here!! Whenever I add a product to the cart, tax is calculated and then immediately deleted. This problem started just today and we have made no changes.
So I just talked with Support and they updated the back end and changed how taxes work. You need to edit the products and select that it requires shipping. Here’s the screenshots I got from them.
I know I’ve got 3500 products that I’m currently cycling through now. It would’ve been even better if they told us about this change in the first place.
Not that I’ve found. The only time saving trick I know of is clicking the
top checkmark box (but don’t check it), holding shift and then clicking the
last box to highlight them all and THEN click the check in any box to check
them all at once.
Took me hours to get this fixed. By the time that we figured it out we had already made several thousand dollars worth of sales. Now we have to pay for that sales tax that we didn’t collect. I never thought I would say that QuickBooks POS wasn’t the worst program out there but now Shopify has taken the lead by far. Waiting for the class action lawsuit to join. The number of things they lied about is staggering.
This solution isn’t working for my POS System. I updated and saved every single item in my shop and it’s still randomly removing taxes. I checked all the “charge tax” buttons on both product listings and on the POS systems and still no fix. It seems to be about 15% of my products as far as I can tell at this point.
Hi everyone! I can see that some of you are having some issues with your point of sale app and your taxes. I know that the solution provided by @FabGear worked for some of you, but not all.
If this is an issue you are still experiencing please reach out to our authenticated support team or our retail support team through your point of sale app. You can find the contact phone number under the support tab. You can also access our authenticated support in our Help Center, please follow this link: Shopify Help Center.
this absolutely does nothing to fix in person sales where no shipping is necessary.
whatever was changed removes taxes for POS and is an unacceptable change when it worked fine even two weeks ago. and suddenly whatever backend change now leaves us suddenly without collecting taxes that we will have to pay and are AT an event trying to sell and only discovered this issue when trying to make sales.
The shipping solution is not correct for my situation. Shopify made an update to the way the system handles taxes based on product categories. And of course, they do this without telling anyone or posting the solution. Making us fend for ourselves and waste our time making changes per product that were perfectly fine before.
In my state, groceries (including food items and beverages) are not taxed UNLESS they are being made to order like at a restaurant or coffee shop. So Shopify made it so certain product categories don’t charge tax based on their understanding of tax tax laws. But this completely negates and overrides the “Charge tax on this product” button. So now I have to go through and change the product category of the food and drink items we sell in our Cafe that we make. That is until they update something unless without warning.
What product category did you change to to make POS charge taxes? I’m having all sorts of issues with using the categories of coffee, baked goods, and similar items. Appreciate your response. Thank you!
