How can I ensure my checkout setup is correct?

Hi all, is there a way to properly check or setup checkout correctly? I am now unsure that i have set mine up properly as not getting any sales, have people adding to cart but not converting.

My store is as follows: https://silverseaspindle.co.uk/

Any help is much appreciated, am thinking on hiring an expert to help me out

Yes, just go through the checkout as if you were a customer and place an order.

I recommend doing this at least once a quarter anyways, so you’re always aware of how your customer experiences your store as things evolve - I often get new ideas to improve marketing and branding while doing this.

To see how people use your site, checkout hotjar.com. That will allow you to see heatmaps, record usage, and create polls (polls can help you learn why they’re not converting).

Another thing to check is Google Analytics to see the flow of pages and where they drop off. Also check where your traffic is coming from. Referral traffic and Google Ads / Shopping traffic tend to convert the highest for most stores I’ve seen. If you’re sending social media traffic you’ll need a higher amount of visitors, maybe a couple hundred for an unproven brand.

Lastly, make sure your site is trustworthy (professionally designed logo, prominent about page, reviews, etc).

Hi, @spirit03119 .

Thanks for posting to the forums, I hope your day is going well!

I had a look at your site and the checkout is running smoothly. Thus, it’s not the checkout that is preventing customers from purchasing. Have you taken a look at any of your abandoned checkouts? That will let you know if there was any payment issue.

In the meantime, I would love to know what your current marketing strategy is, as well as your monthly visitors. The average conversion rate of online stores is currently 2.63%. Therefore, if you have low traffic, you will have low conversions.

Taking a look at your website, I do have some advice that could help you with conversions. Firstly, I recommend you spend some more time tinkering with your theme. It appears you are using the default settings, and have not added much customization. It’s important to customize your store, and add a logo as this creates a sense of branding and trust. A great free website to create a professional logo is canva.com.

You will also want to add collections to your store’s navigation. Currently the collections are hiding mid way down the home page. You want these collections easy to find and navigate.

When it comes to design, the last bit of advice I recommend is to adjust your products photos and

make sure your main product images are the same style and size. It is important for images to remain consistent so that your storefront looks professional. There are some apps that can help like Swap Photo Editor and Bulk Image Edit.

To increase conversions it’s important to have a call to action. This can be through a pop-up that provides a discount code in exchange for subscribing to your email list. Popups are a great tool to not only build a customer list, but a great way to convert traffic into sales. A great way to utilize a pop up would be to request customers sign up with their email to your mailing list to receive a 10% off coupon. A popup app, which also has a free plan, is Privy. You can check it out here.

I hope that helps for now! Once you provide me with your marketing strategy and your daily average I can provide more insight into how to build your traffic. For the time being you can check out our guide on marketing techniques without having to spend money on ads!
