I have the “free shipping” at $50 option up currently, but it’s causing me difficulties in cost because some of my products are larger and more expensive to ship, so I wanted to set up a way to discount shipping based on purchase total. So for example for every $50 spent, the customer would get $5 off their shipping (up to free shipping). I currently have this built in with a custom app for my hold order customers which will combine the weight and value of a group of orders and calculate shipping, but I wanted to extend this to ALL orders which would then allow me to add a handling fee to the larger products via shipping profiles (which I will need YET ANOTHER app to manage in bulk because… well Shopify…). Does anyone know of a way to make this happen without having to pay Shopify $2000 per month for their higher level service?
Hi @Travnape ,
You can easily achieve this with **Multi Carrier Shipping Label App. **The app allows you to set multiple shipping rules including discounts based on purchase total & flat rate or free shipping based on your requirement. The app comes with a 14 day free trial. You can install & see if it matches your needs.
So with all these “Shipper calculated rates” being used on these apps, does that mean if I used this app, that I wouldn’t get Shopify discounted rates?
@Travnape you will get to use your carrier account & have negotiated rates according to your needs.
That doesn’t exactly answer my question. It’s my understanding that the Shopify negotiated rates function as their own carrier account when getting pricing for USPS or UPS for example, but if I set up my own carrier account (which is required on these 3rd party apps I believe?) then I have the more expensive non-negociated rates. Is that correct?
@Travnape Yes, you will not get negotiated rates from the app side. But what I tried to explain is that since you need to have your carrier accounts, you have the flexibility to contact the carrier/s to directly have negotiated rates from their side. Let me know if you have any further queries!
Ok, so the app calculated rates would use retail rates to charge the customer unless I set up an account with them to use negotiated rates, but I could then use Shopify’s discounted rates to actually fulfill the orders. In affect maintaining that buffer between the discounted rate and the charged customer rate (for packaging and handling fees). Does that sound correct?
