I would like to set-up a free .pdf for my customers. However, I would like my customers to put in their email address to gain free access. Are there any apps or Shopify settings to do this?

Have you considered the Digital Downloads app? This is a free app developed by Shopify that allows you to email digital files like PDFs to your customers. The file is set up as a “product”, but you can assign a price of $0 to it, and customers will be required to enter their email address at checkout before receiving the file.
Another option is to set up an automated email that goes out to new subscribers or to a specific list if you’re using an email marketing service.
Thank-you @Sophia . At check-out, do customers have to put all their info in (like shipping), or can they check out with a digital download with only inputting an email address?

Yes, with the Digital Downloads app, customers will still go through the checkout process and need to enter shipping information in addition to their email address. They won’t need to select a shipping method or enter payment details though, if they’re only checking out with the free product.
If the PDF is being marketed simply as “enter your email and get x for free”, the email marketing apps will likely be the best solution for you. They’ll allow you to create a custom email that shares the free file once customers subscribe.
