How can I redirect PayPal payments to my account?

I just purchased my Shopify store off someone else, and received my first order as the new owner. The payment notification through PayPal went to the old owner though, and I believe so did the payment. How do I fix this?

Congratulations on your new store. How exciting! May I ask how you purchased this store, was it privately or via our exchange program here?

If you chose our exchange program to buy this business on, then this is something that would not usually occur, as the process is handled by our exchange support team. If the business purchase has been handled privately then, since they were paid out to your seller already, we do not have a way to recover the funds. I recommend getting in touch with the previous seller directly to arrange the funds get transferred to your PayPal account, or contacting PayPal directly here to see if this is something that they can help with.

I’d strongly suggest reaching out to the seller to let them know you will need those funds to be able to fulfill your customer’s order. Not fulfilling orders can result in a chargeback to the account where the funds were sent (the original seller’s account) so do keep that in mind.

You’ll need to then link the correct PayPal account to your new store, you can learn how to set that up right here at this link. Let me know how things pan out or if you require any more advice on this.

No we did not do our transaction via the exchange program through Shopify. Not sure if she knew that was an option.

She has been lovely and transferring the orders to me.

It is still an issue. I have ensured the email address associated with my Shopify Account is linked to my PayPal, but I just got another order and it went to the old owner again :frowning:

Please help.

Hi Maz,

I have received another order from my website, and I cannot find where the funds have gone. The previous owner advised she did not receive them.

Also, I am being charged for the website fees BUT she is receiving the receipts.

This is becoming frustrating as we believe we have made all the changes on our end to ensure everything is turned over to me.. but we are still finding little things not working. Can someone please urgently help me?

It is definitely frustrating that this is still an issue. As mentioned previously, I would suggest setting up PayPal on your store following the document I linked above. If that doesn’t do the trick, it might be best to then get in touch with PayPal to see if they can issue a fix on their side. We have no control over this or retrieving payments to the correct account if not configured correctly. PayPal should be able to handle the payment side, as that’s external.

Another option for you is to reach out to our live support here, while we cannot retrieve the payments for you, our team maybe able to check your admin to see if any errors exist.
