How to change my paypal account for payouts?

I connected the wrong Paypal account for receiving payouts. How can I change that?

Currently, Shopify Payments does not payout to PayPal. Therefore, it sounds like you are using a third party gateway. Or, perhaps you’re referring to your account billing and not your payouts? If you can provide a bit more context regarding where you are seeing a PayPal account connected that would be great.

In the Payments setting, there is option to "Add additional payment method’. But perhaps I was confused with it being a checkout option versus payout.

The other question is I’ve tested a couple transactions using my personal Paypal account and money was deducted. HOwever, paypal indicated that it is ‘pending acceptance of the payment’ from seller and that it will release the payment only after some weeks. It also listed not even sales volume as reason for holding the money. ie. paying out to seller (me). Help please!

Thanks for explaining! You are correct that it is a separate checkout option, not a payout. I can see how it is confusing though as any orders placed through this checkout would technically be a payout.

I don’t recommend changing your PayPal email until this is resolved. However, to accept payments on PayPal through Shopify, your connected PayPal account needs to be verified. The PayPal account that is automatically created for your store when you onboard to Shopify is done so with the email used to create your Shopify account. I recommend you login to this PayPal account and check what needs to be completed. Generally this would be uploading a form of ID and other applicable documents.

If you still run into issues, I recommend contacting PayPal support directly to understand what needs to be completed before your seller’s account can accept payment.

Thanks for the reply. It helped clear one part of the problem.

On connected paypal account with Shopify, here’s where it gets a little complex.

  1. I have forgotten which email account was used to connect my paypal account

  2. I’ve probably tested using the same Paypal account - wonder if that would be a problem/reason for Paypal withholding the payment

  3. I need to actually change the account/email – I suppose I need to consult Paypal Support for this?

In any case, I have already connected my bank account for Payout, not Paypal, why is it still an issue for receiving payment (at Paypal side?)
