How can I smoothly transition my domain from Wordpress to Shopify?

Hi there,

I bought a Domain from Google - I currently have a Wordpress Website were my domain is hosted through GoDaddy.

I am trying to have a smooth transition. I would like for my website to be live on Wordpress until 6/14/2022. Then on 6/15/2022 go live with Shopify.

What would be the easiest way for me to transfer my website?

It says that it takes up to 20 days to transfer the domain on Shopify.

Thanks for posting to the forums, I hope your day is going well!

It sounds like you aren’t wanting to transfer your domain, you only want to point the domain, is that correct? This essentially means it’s still going to be hosted by GoDaddy, but instead of pointing to Wordpress, it will point to Shopify.

If this is correct, then you can easily point your domain to Shopify at midnight the day you want to make the switch. That being said, in some situations, it can take up to 48 hours to verify. Generally speaking though, it is almost instant.

Steps:1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Domains.

  1. Click Connect existing domain.

  2. Enter your domain, such as johns-apparel.info, and then click Next.

  3. Click Connect automatically.

  4. If necessary, log in to your GoDaddy

  5. Click Connect, and then click Close.

While you can easily transfer your domain to Shopify, transferring your entire website is a different task.

You are unable to simply transfer an entire website to a different platform. You can, however, download all of the necessary data and transfer it to Shopify. Additionally, your store’s theme (the website design) would be different as it has different HTML which we call liquid.

I provided you a response above that provides two different answers depending on what you are looking to achieve. Are you wanting to simply transfer the domain name? Or, are you wanting to transfer the entire site content?
