I am a new business and I have taken every precaution to set up my image etc. Now I’m getting fake Email accounts from Mark Mussleman with at least 50 sign-ups. This is horrible as identity theft is something I worry about. I can’t afford to hire an expert so I have to depend on article podcasts, youtube, and such to learn how to set up my site etc. I am very worried now that I have a few customers, I don’t want to put them or myself at risk. For God’s sake can’t an old grandma have a side hustle without folks taking advantage of her.
Everytime I see this fake customer I erase these fake accounts any way I can stop this its really hurting my confidence.
I’m getting this exact same “customer” signing up for accounts in droves on my site as well! Since last month (March 2022), I’ve had over 126 accounts with this same exact name, each one with a different US address and an email address that ends in “fakemail.com”. They were all tagged with the tag ‘cleaned-email-spam-protect’ by my email provider, Seguno and were unsubscribed from my email list. Since the email addresses appear to be fake anyway, I’m not sure why the accounts are being made, unless they are hoping I’m going to send regular mail to the mailing addresses? I think I’m going to remove the “create account” option from my site completely, because my regular customers don’t really use the account feature anyway.
This is really not helpful - please look at the fraud filter and reviews, all say worthless (recent). I do NOT want a captcha on my own website - cant stand those. really disappointing to throw it back on the store owner as I’m sure shopify can do something about fake accounts and mark musclemann as i too had this issue. And why? who is doing this - what company?
i did add the 6.99 a month fraud filter that is not shopifys - should be called nickelanddimeya.com
I’ve had the same exact name “Mark Mussleman” subscribe to my site as well with about 100+ sign ups. Not exactly sure how these accounts would benefit from signing up. I just went into my customer files and deleted all of them.
So glad you said this. Don’t we pay enough already for Shopify to step up and block these garbage “accounts” for as part of our subscriptions? It’s ridiculous we even have to deal with them!
