I need help! I have tried to change and currently have my photo I want set for social media sharing, however it will not change over when I actually share the link. It’s still showing the old photo. Also when I think about it I never had a photo uploaded in the social media area to begin with. I need to know how to correct this.
Hi @jessica_137 ,
Please note that for all of the free themes from Shopify, when you post a link from your online store to social media, the featured image for that page is shown. The following page types have featured images:
- Product pages
- Collection pages
- Blog posts
For pages that do not have featured images, like your homepage or an “About us” page, the social sharing image of your online store is shown.
Some platforms such as Facebook or Instagram will have your social sharing image cached and may not update on their side. In some cases, it may take 24-72 hours to be updated on other platforms. You may check it back later.
You can read more about social media image here.
I hope it helps.
Hey @jessica_137 .
Thanks for reaching out.
I appreciate the context that you have shared with us as that is very helpful! Could you let us know when you made the change to the social media sharing image?
When you make this change, the image will be applied immediately - however, other third-party platforms may continue to use the previous image until they updated/synced the changes on their side. Once that has been completed, the image will be changed accordingly.
If you have made this change more than 72 hours ago and it is not updating, you may need to use debugger tools if an old image is still appearing
-
If this is occurring on Facebook, use their developer tool to scrape the newest image at https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/. Insert your store URL at this link and click “debug.”
-
On Twitter you can access a similar developer debugging tool at https://cards-dev.twitter.com/validator. Enter your site URL here and then click “preview card.”
Let me know if that does the trick, looking forward to your response!
