I am starting to think that maybe shopify just isn’t a service based platform because I literally barely get any traction to my page. Not even comparable to platforms that are designed only for hair but the reason I chose shopify was to sell products as well. Neither is being seen by potential clients. What am I doing wrong?
Topic summary
A Shopify user is struggling to attract clients for their hair services and product sales, questioning whether Shopify is suitable for service-based businesses. They’re getting minimal traffic compared to hair-specific platforms.
Suggested diagnostic approach:
- Use Shopify’s built-in analytics to check two key metrics: overall traffic and conversion rate
- A linked video tutorial explains how to interpret these metrics
Recommended solutions if traffic is low:
- The issue likely isn’t the website itself, but rather promotional strategy
- Focus on local marketing tactics that have proven effective for salons:
- Optimize and maintain Google Business Profile
- Experiment with traditional advertising (flyers, bus ads)
The discussion remains open with no definitive resolution on whether Shopify is appropriate for service-based hair businesses.
It sounds like you’re frustrated with your website because it’s not performing the way it should. It’s especially tough when you don’t know what you’re doing wrong or even how to find out.
One great thing about Shopify is that it comes with really good analytics tools. We always use them as a starting point when diagnosing underperforming stores. There are two things to look for: overall traffic, and conversion rate. We broke this down in a video last year:

If traffic is low, then the problem likely isn’t your website. You may need to look at your promotional activities and find ways to actively drive traffic. We’ve done some great work with salons on Shopify, and a push for local traffic has been really effective. This involves staying on top of Google Business Profile and experimenting with traditional advertising like flyers and bus ads.
I hope that gives you some ideas!
