Due to recent publicity about PayPal I also enabled Shopify payments (Stripe) on my website this morning. If I don’t disable PayPal, what does the customer see… I hope it won’t result in confusion. I’ll eventually disable PP, but I want to make sure everything works. This was a big change for my, since I’ve been a PayPal customer/user for over 22 years.
I disabled Paypal over the weekend and am looking for an alternative cash payment option. Some of my international customers prefer that method and some may not have traditional credit cards. Anyone have any suggestions?
Hi, @Jim_Ettwein !
Thank you for your post, I’m happy to provide you with more information. If you enable Shopify Payments but also have PayPal on your store, it shouldn’t cause confusion for your customers, as they will see both options at checkout and choose how they’d like to pay. You can see an example from my test store here where I have Shopify Payments, PayPal, and two manual payment methods enabled:
If you decide to remove PayPal from your store, and have Shopify Payments enabled, you shouldn’t experience any disruptions with your customers being able to check out on your store.
Please let me know if there’s anything else I can help clarify for you!
Hi there, @Thirdcat !
Great question. From what you’re describing, it sounds like adding a manual payment method would be a good fit for your store. As you mentioned, some customers don’t want to pay for their orders using a credit card. These customers can still place their orders online if you set up a manual payment method. When your customers use a manual payment method, you can arrange to receive their payment in a way that works best for them. Common types of manual payments include cash on delivery (COD), money orders, and bank transfers. You can read more about manual payment methods and how to add them to your store in this help document. Additionally, you can check out this page to see all the payment gateways available in your country. You can have a credit card processor as well as a manual payment method enabled on your store at the same time to provide your customers with more options.
I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions.
That doesn’t solve my issue. We already use shop pay and take an assortment
of credit cards, but Paypal enabled the customer to connect their payments
directly to their checking account so the payment was immediate, like a
debit transaction. For foreign customers, this seemed to be an advantage. I
am looking for a viable alternative.
That’s more in line with what I was looking for. Now I just have to compare
options.
Thanks… my first sale came in today via Stripe… totally painless and effortless transition.
Thanks for the advice.
Jim
Greta… I’m usually pretty good at finding stuff… but I cannot find out where to setup receiving payment when customers use Stripe. I’m guessing I have to setup a link to my accounts, but I can’t find where to do this. I did go to the payment methods screen, and chose “Manage” for the Stripe payment method, but I don’t see a place where I can link my account to setup payments and schedule of payments.
Thanks for the help,
Jim
I think I was too ambitious… I believe I set it up correctly… but was too impatient. I’ll wait a couple days and see if things are setup correctly.
Hi, @Thirdcat !
Thank you for getting back to me — I’m glad those options work for you. I know there are some payment providers besides PayPal that will process debit card transactions, so that’s definitely something worth checking out.
Please let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with!
Hi there, @Jim_Ettwein !
My apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Can you confirm whether you’re using Stripe or Shopify Payments on your store? Shopify Payments is powered by Stripe, but they are different payment methods. If you’re using Stripe, you’ll need to set up your payouts on their website. I found this help document from Stripe with more information. If you are using Shopify Payments, you can reference this guide which has all the steps to set up your account, including adding the bank account you want to receive payouts to.
I also wanted to share that you can get live 24/7 assistance through our Help Center. We’re available through live chat, callback, and email, and it’s best to get in touch through there when you need immediate help.
Please let me know if you have any other questions!
