How I add sub collections?

Topic summary

A user is struggling to create sub-collections in Shopify despite following setup steps, as shown in their screenshots.

Technical Limitation:

  • Shopify doesn’t natively support true sub-collections in the admin interface
  • The menu system allows visual hierarchy but doesn’t create actual nested collection structures

Suggested Solutions:

  • Menu adjustment: Ensure sub-collection menu items are properly indented/nested to the right under parent items
  • Troubleshooting: Clear browser cache or wait, as display issues may be temporary glitches
  • Workarounds: Use menus, metafields, and custom code to manually link collections together
  • App solution: Third-party apps like ā€œFDL Breadcrumbs & Collectionsā€ can create visual collection trees with breadcrumb navigation on collection pages using app blocks

Status: The issue stems from platform limitations rather than user error; workarounds or apps are needed for true sub-collection functionality.

I don t understand how to add sub collections, I pretty much do anything but they still don t appear.

So femei is a menu item, u der femei topuri is a collection, to make a sub collection under u der topuri you need to add an element under that and slide it under that more towards the right.

I am pretty sure you get the point since you have already set up a few collections. Sometimes it’s just some glitch and stuff for which it might not take effect. May be clear cache and try or may be just try after some time.

Hi Emilia,

You can’t create actual sub-collections in Shopify’s admin, but one workaround is to manually link collections together using menus, metafields, and add some custom codes.

But if you’re looking for a way to show subcollections visually on your collection pages, there are apps that help with that. One example I’ve worked on is an app that lets you build a collection tree, then display child collections inside the parent collection page using app blocks — no code needed.

It also supports breadcrumbs so customers can navigate easily between collections.

If you want to check it out, the app’s called FDL Breadcrumbs & Collections – here’s the link:
