How to correctly input Sales Tax ID in the system?

Help! Can anyone tell me the proper format for your Sales Tax ID in shopify. Our new license took effect January 1st. The system kicked out our ID #. I have tried to put it in numerous different ways to no avail. So Shopify isn’t charging Sales Tax on all of our food products.

I understand that you’re looking to update the Sales Tax ID as you have a new business license taking effect. If your store already has an associated Sales Tax ID, then we’ll need to access your account in order to make these changes. That being said, I noticed that you’re a new member of our Shopify Community and I’d love to hear more about your business. Aside from the food products, what other types of products are you selling? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?

I have been through 2 live chat conversations so far and neither representative was able to help in the least. All I need to know is in what format Shopify requires the Tax Id to be entered so that it recognizes not only State Taxes but also the County and City taxes. I would really appreciate being able to speak to someone directly so that I can get this matter resolved!

The format for the Sales Tax ID should be as shown on your business license registration, as there doesn’t seem to be a required format indicated on our guide - Registration-based taxes in the US. With that being said, if you’re still unable to update the Sales Tax ID, then we will need to take a closer look at your account in order to resolve the issue.
