Im looking shift one of my websites from Woo to Shopify and am having difficulty finding the detail.
It’s a retail / wholesale site and we currently use a 3PL external warehouse that we manually click through customer orders through to them via FTP for processing. I want to see if there is an existing solution to this scenario, i.e to customise the FTP file to suit our warehouse needs and that they receive the file in the format they require and to understand how the platform deals with this type of information transfer.
Appreciate any feedback or a point in the right direction before we start the process.
For this functionality you would use one of Shopify apps. Simply anytime order is created/fulfilled it would create a file and upload it to your FTP for processing. DataJet offers this functionality OOTB.
Shopify offers a robust API and integration ecosystem, but native FTP support for this specific scenario isn’t built-in. You can create a custom solution, this would require technical expertise but ensures full control over data formatting and transfer.
However, the effective solution to automate the generation and customization of FTP files for your 3PL warehouse is using integration tools like Skyvia. It is a no-code platform that enables seamless synchronization and customization of Shopify data for FTP transfers.
With the tool, you can extract customer orders from Shopify, transform the data into the format required by your warehouse, and deliver it via FTP. It supports also near real-time synchronization. You can find more details here.
If Skyvia doesn’t meet all your requirements, consider exploring Zapier, Workato, or MuleSoft.
