Shopify closed my store even before I could select a theme. My other stores are still live but they chose to close just this one for no reason… said I violated policy - didn’t even select a theme let alone trade. I’m now struggling to get my domain back. I don’t even care about it the store anymore since it’s this easy to get your business canceled… quite scary. I paid for a full year for the domain and I would like it to be transferred to another host. On the help forum it says to do so before closing store, well they closed it before I could do anything with it. It’s my registered business name so as you can understand I really need that domain back (not the store)! How on earth do I get it back? Support keeps saying they will escalate it but it’s been nearly 1.5 week now, 2 support tickets in and yet no response. How do they get away treating businesses like this?
Topic summary
Main issue: A merchant’s Shopify store was closed before setup, preventing any theme selection or trading. They urgently want to recover and transfer the domain (paid for a full year, matching their registered business name) to another host.
Current status: Support said the case would be escalated, but after ~1.5 weeks and two tickets there’s been no response. The merchant can no longer submit help requests or access the closed store, which blocks typical domain management steps.
Advice received: Continue pursuing Shopify Support, since domains bought via Shopify remain under Shopify’s control until transferred. Provide the domain name and proof of purchase (receipts/invoices) to facilitate escalation.
Context/terms: “Domain transfer” means moving a purchased web address from one registrar (Shopify) to another host/registrar. Access to the store is usually needed to initiate this, which is currently unavailable.
Outcome: No resolution yet. Key open question: How to obtain domain control/transfer when the store is closed and help-center access is restricted.
Contact Shopify Support: Since the domain was purchased through Shopify, they retain control over it until it’s transferred. It’s crucial to continue following up with their support team and requesting an escalation. Make sure to provide the domain name and proof of purchase (receipts or invoices).
It’s not even possible anymore to submit a help request for that store. I
was able to do it 2 times with 2 tickets but now I’m unable to access it
completely. What a horrible company
