Google Merchant Center is pulling my brand name from Shopify. My products do not have a brand, MPN, or GTIN. However, my GMC product identifier is set to True/Yes (probably because my brand name is being pulled from Shopify).
I have all my items set to custom within Shopify > Google Fields.
How do I remove my brand name from all my items?
Then, how do I set my product identifier to No/False?
I’ve read some people say I have to create a supplemental feed. Others have said to create a feed rule.
Whatever option is the one I need to go with I literally need a step-by-step of exactly how to do it because I know absolutely nothing about this stuff but I can follow step-by-step instructions very well.
I have contacted Google (they said to contact Shopify). I have contacted Shopify (currently waiting for them to hear back from their Google Team). I have also contacted a Fiverr guy (who basically repeated my issue to me and said I need to create a feed rule - but again, I don’t know how).
Hopefully the Wisdom of Crowds can help me out with this.
GMC > products > feeds > click on your feed > click on the tab feed rules > create a rule for brand to clear, and a rule for identifier exists to set to no.
Thank you for the help. I am aware of what I need to do, I just haven’t been able to find a step-by-step on how to do it.
So I just went ahead and winged it with creating these feed rules and hopefully you can let me know if they are correct.
To clear the brand attribute I used the “Set To” box and I didn’t know what to set it to so I just chose Content API. And for the Modification area, I chose the Condition “if Content API equals Pineal Vision Jewelry” use the Clear function.
I tried the Clear Brand Attribute feed rule yesterday by itself and I got the error “missing [brand]” for all my products so I deleted that feed rule. I have also tried the set identifier exist to no feed rule and it was correctly set to no in the “final attributes” but it’s still showing as False in the “raw feed attributes” in the product details. But I have not tried both of these feed rules together.
Waiting to see what happens but I just wanted to know if I even set up the feed rules correctly?
Ok, so those two feed rules registered. One good thing is I do not have an error of missing [brand] this time.
However, when I click on one of my items in the merchant center you can see there are two sets of data at the bottom; one titled Final Attributes and one titled Raw Feed Attributes: Content API. In the Final Attributes section, the brand attribute has been removed and the identifier exists has been set to no. But in the Raw Feed Attributes: Content API the brand attribute is still there and the identifier exists attribute is still set to True.
Trust me, I’ve read all of these Google articles, some of them over 5 times over the course of months, but it’s like reading a foreign language at some parts. I understand why I need to do things and what I need to do. It’s the How that gets me working on this for days without success.
I’m curious if I set up my feed rules correctly. As I mentioned in my reply to you, in the “Final Attributes” section, the brand attribute has been removed and the identifier exists has been set to no. But in the “Raw Feed Attributes: Content API” the brand attribute is still there and the identifier exists attribute is still set to True.
So I’m guessing I did not set up my feed rules correctly? This is my main issue.
My Google Account still isn’t eligible for enhanced listings. I’m going to try to get more reviews on my Google My Business page.
Would I be able to apply for Shopping Ads if my account isn’t eligible for enhanced listings?
I may just hire you to help me with this. I’m just exhausted with Google. Long story short, I went months with no issues enjoying the many sales the enhanced listings brought. I then was ready to start Shopping Ads, I applied and boom, account suspended. I spent months and a good chunk of change getting everything in order. Finally asked for a review and got my account reinstated and back to Enhanced free listings, then 2 weeks later, I’m now dealing with Account ineligible for enhanced listings. I’m completely drained and defeated.
Yes you can, simply make sure your products are active and approved for shopping ads.
Then setup your ads in Google Ads.
I know it’s exhausting, the issue is that Google has so many policies, settings, etc. that it takes a long time to learn. I have been doing this for over 12 years and still learn new things every week.
I help over 300 merchants every year, so I have a lot of experience
I’ve done the same steps too today. I see in your screen shot that your updated brand shows the qty value. The same thing happened to me. What did I do wrong?
Hi Brittany - I’m thankful that I found your post! I’ve been hitting my head against a wall with the same issue. Have you found a method that worked for you to remove the “brand” (aka Shopify Vendor data) from your Product Titles on Google Shopping Search Results? thanks!
