I turned on the facebook chat on my page but later discovered S Inbox, I thought that by activating S Inbox Facebook chat would disapear from my website but now I have both bubbles on and can’t figure out how to turn off facebook chat.
Hi there, @Okcorral !
Thanks so much for reaching out to the Shopify Community with your question about turning off Facebook Chat.
Direct messaging in your online store is an amazing tool to help build your business and brand. Stores that have these direct messaging systems in their stores often have higher conversion rates than stores that don’t so it’s fantastic that you’re using interesting in using this to your advantage.
From your screenshot, I can see that it looks like you currently have both live chats, Facebook Chat and Shopify Inbox, enabled. If you’re looking to just use Inbox in your store, you can remove the Facebook Chat application from your store and this should turn off it’s functionality. You can uninstall Facebook Chat using the following steps:
- Login to your Shopify Admin
- Select ‘Apps’ from the left hand menu
- On the page that loads, click the red word ‘delete’ in the Facebook Chat box
- Provide a reason for the popup that appears, and click the red ‘delete’ button
This should turn off and remove Facebook Chat from your shop. This should also help sort out that logo overlapping your screenshot was showcasing!
Let me know if you have any questions about this information!
I tried following your steps but I don’t have a facebook chat box app, and when I cliick on the facebook app it takes me to the facebook and instagram shop and marketing but I have the facebook messanger off.
Hi there, @Okcorral !
Thanks for your reply and all of those screenshots!
So based on the information you’ve provided, it looks like the button you’re seeing isn’t related to any of your installed applications. It looks like it may be built into your theme’s coding in your store.
In order for us to be certain of that, I have two things I wish to ask of you:
- Can you tell us what theme you’re currently using in your store where you’ve seeing this button doubleup?
- Did you have somebody hired to help you develop and build your store?
The button itself doesn’t seem to be related to any ‘messenger’ type applications so it’s likely built into your theme coding. Can you provide a link to your store so I can test clicking the button and seeing what happens? This may help determine what is causing the button to appear and how we may remove it.
I’ll keep my eyes peeled for your reply!
so our URL is okcorralww.com
We have the theme Turbo-tennessee
and when we first started we did have someone helping us with the website, I have tried to contact them but they hven’t been able to check out the issue.
Hey again, @Okcorral !
The link to your website was beyond helpful and I believe I now know exactly where the Messenger Box is coming from. It appears to be a chat plugin + added coding that is available for free from Facebook. It links your Messenger for your Facebook Page to your Website for easy communication with customers. In order to remove the messenger box, you’ll want to turn off the plug-in, and remove the related coding.
I have some resources here that should instruct you on how to do this! First, I found this resource that looks to be an information page on what the plugin does and where it comes from. You can access it here. The biggest take away here is the information on how to turn on (and essentially turn off) the plugin feature. Those steps look to be this:
- Login to your Facebook Page
- Navigate to ‘Settings’ and then ‘Messaging’
- The setup for the plugin would have been completed in the past, so you should see some wording about the plugin here. See if you can find anything that says ‘turn off messaging’, or something similar. Click on that. The goal in this section is to see what the coding looks like that was added to your store.
- Even if you don’t find anything to turn off the plugin, removing the code should remove the button entirely.
After looking into those above steps, your next move is to remove the coding from your website that allows the button to be visible. Shopify employees aren’t permitted to touch the coding in folk’s stores, so you will want to use the steps I’m going to provide you to remove the code on your own. I know you can do it!
The steps to add the code to your site (and essentially remove the code by doing the steps up to where you add the coding, and instead you delete it) can be found on this site here. You’ll want to scroll down the page until you see a section titled 'Add the Chat Plugin to your Website’. From there, select the 'Shopify’ option and follow along with those steps in your Shopify Store. When you get to the ‘adding the code’ step, instead look for the code that matches what you saw in the Settings > Messaging section from the first set of steps. Find that coding, highlight it, delete it, and then save your edits. This should remove the button from your website entirely.
There is a lot of information here, but this is all of what you need in order to remove the button! If you have any questions, please just reply to the thread and I’ll be happy to continue assisting you as best I can.
