I have now dealt with two fraudulent sellers on Shopify and there’s no way for me to rectify the situation because they’ve taken down their pages and you require a URL link in order for me to fill out the damn form and there is no URL link! I’m getting really frustrated because I tried emailing support and got a response that you don’t take emails anymore and all the support seems to be for sellers and no support for buyers were dealing with fraudulent sellers. I’m about to submit a claim with the Better Business Bureau if somebody doesn’t contact me immediately. This is absolutely ridiculous that there’s no way for me to get a refund because you were choir 30 days and both sellers took their platforms down within those 30 days
Topic summary
Multiple buyers report being defrauded by sellers who shut down their Shopify stores within 30 days of purchase, making refunds impossible. The core issue: Shopify’s support system requires a URL to file complaints, but these URLs no longer exist once stores close.
Key frustrations:
- No accessible buyer support channels (email support discontinued)
- Support infrastructure appears designed exclusively for sellers
- 30-day refund window becomes meaningless when fraudulent stores disappear quickly
Actions being taken:
- Complaints filed with Better Business Bureau
- Users expressing interest in potential class action lawsuit
- One user registered on an external complaints site (no response yet)
Broader concerns:
- Users question Shopify’s legitimacy despite its $85B market cap
- Comparison drawn to Amazon’s customer service approach
- At least one potential business user now avoiding the platform entirely
The discussion remains unresolved with no official Shopify response, leaving affected buyers without clear recourse.
I have the same problem. I eventually found and signed up on some complaints site but have yet to receive a response.
I guess all we have to do is set up a convincing looking “shop”, take orders for a couple of weeks, and then close the shop. Shopify will thereafter make sure that no unhappy customers bother us.
I have the same exact issue as you. I cannot believe that Shopify is a legitimate company let alone a publicly traded one with a $85Billion market cap. I already contacted the BBB but not sure where that will go. I really hope/can’t wait for the class action lawsuit coming for Shopify and hope to be a part of it.
For reasons like this, this must be why Amazon focuses so much on customer service, that’s unacceptable
Thank you for these comments I work for resorts and was curious about shopify, I am actually not never going to look at anything, that’s so bad for a company to treat or not help situations like this.
