I want to unpublish my store for 2-3 days while building?

Hi

Do I really need to go to Settings → Plan → Deactivate Store → Pause and build?

Can’t I just unpublish some pages or the entire shop for a couple of days?

Thanks in advanced

Hello @Gallie

Greetings from the Store Watchers Support Team! Happy to help you today.

I would advise you to create a duplicate theme and start working on the changes you want. You can keep the live theme published and work on the unpublished duplicate theme. Also if you want to see the changes you made on the unpublished duplicate theme, you can always open it in the preview mode.

Once you test your changes and are happy with them. You can publish the theme you worked on.

Steps to duplicate a theme :

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
  2. For the theme that you want to duplicate, click the button to open the actions menu, and then click Duplicate.

The duplicate theme appears on the Themes page. It is named Copy Of + the name of the theme that you duplicated

Hello, @Gallie .

Absolutely this is possible, you can do this without switching to a pause and build plan. The easiest way to do this is to use the password page function - You can restrict visitors’ access to your online store by adding the password page in the Password protection section. The password page is a landing page that requires any visitor to provide a password in order to visit your online store. If you want your customers to access your online store, then you can provide them with the password to your online store. When your password page is active, only the password page of your online store is found by search engines. Other pages, like product pages, are hidden, and search engines won’t display these pages in search results. You can add password restriction by following these steps:

  • From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Preferences.
  • Scroll to the Password protection area, and check Restrict access to visitors with the password.
  • In Password, enter the password that you’ll give to the customers who you want to be able to access your online store. Don’t use the same password that you use to log into your admin.
  • In Message for your visitors, enter the message that you want to show on the password page. If you don’t want to show a message, then leave this field blank.
  • Click Save.

This will mean you can actively work on your store, without the store front being published to the public. What are you hoping to work on over the few days? WHat are your plans?

Great this was one I was looking for. Thanks man!

I will just add some new product + price update of all the products.

You’re most welcome!

That sounds like a great idea. If you wanted to share a link to your store after you have finished all your changes, I’d love to have a look over it and maybe offer some feedback.
